About the Work
Ballet as a Material for Care, a Dance of Connection.
- A Ballet Workshop with People with Visual Impairments.
When we think of ballet, we often think of beautiful movements alongside the intense training and competition that take place behind the scenes to achieve them. We, however, imagines a different kind of ballet—one grounded in care and connection. A Ballet Somewhere is a performance and workshop created with diverse bodies. Two people connect by touching their fingertips, leaning on and supporting one another. There is no need to appear perfect. Each person is free to express the forces flowing through their own body. It is here that a new ballet emerges.

Ballet Guidebook from the Choreographer
There is a guidebook containing the exact verbal instructions used by the choreographer to guide movement during the ballet workshop. Audio guides were also created so that participants can listen and follow the movements wherever they are.
A Ballet Somewhere is a ballet workshop that includes participants with visual impairments. To work together with visually impaired participants, the workshop moved beyond the conventional ballet teaching method of demonstrating movements and instead explored how ballet could be described through language. This guidebook is the result of that process of putting ballet into words. Ballet conveyed through language, rather than demonstration, depends on how each person interprets it through their own body. It does not matter if the ballet one imagines is different from conventional ballet. Somewhere in each of our bodies, that ballet exists.
